Rome to turn neglected plot into a public park

Rome has announced plans to reclaim a neglected plot and transform it into a public park.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri pointed out that the project will include the removal of approximately 60 abandoned heavy vehicles.

Councillor for the environment Sabrina Alfonsi attended the start of work on removal of heavy vehicles, noting that many are hidden in vegetation and pointing out that the plot is overgrown.

City authorities pointed out that the area in question is municipal land that has been occupied illegally by a private citizen who was convicted in 2018, noting that the final ruling opened doors to reclaiming the area.

Rome added that police and local authorities are looking into several illegal settlements in the area and stressed that the project will give the area back to the residents.

Alfonsi reiterated that the citizen in question “abandoned large vehicles” on the plot and warned about the risk of liquids including fuel spilling from the vehicles.

She noted that the vehicles are to be removed in one month, after which the area will be cleared and transformed into a park.

City authorities reminded that the area was used as a park before it fell into neglect due to legal blockades and concluded that Rome will be happy to have it back.
