Rome prioritizes children’s playtime with citywide playground expansion
Rome has constructed a new playground in Villa Borghese as part of its broader efforts to make public play areas accessible to more children.
Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri inaugurated the new playground with city officials, noting that he is happy with the pace of construction of new playgrounds.
He reminded that the city built 65 new playgrounds, with additional 15 projects underway, stressing that Rome wants to give all children access to natural areas where they can play safely.
City authorities pointed out that new playgrounds are larger and better equipped than those designed previously, which will help children to develop different potentials.
While some playgrounds focus more on physical activities and are equipped with slides and swings, other ones are equipped with musical instruments and other types of content.
The project in Villa Borghese is part of Rome’s plan for modernisation and expansion of play areas launched in 2021. It is worth some EUR 170,000, with city authorities pointing out that the existing play area was modernised and expanded.
Municipality head Francesca Del Bello noted “we have also created new play areas at Villa Paganini and Villa Ada, but the work does not end there because we want to build a new play area at Nemorense Park as well.”
City authorities reminded that Rome earmarked roughly EUR 20 million for modernisation and expansion of play areas.
