Prague launches workshop to boost sustainability
Prague has launched a small furniture repair workshop as part of its efforts to boost sustainability.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib pointed out that the project is implemented in cooperation with the Jarov vocational high school in the coming months.
As part of the project, residents will have an opportunity to take small furniture repair courses in a fully equipped workshop in the school, with city authorities noting that courses will be held monthly.
Workshops will be supervised by teachers and the aim of the project is to help residents reduce the amount of waste by maintaining their furniture.
Councillor for the environment Jana Plamínková pointed out that the move will offer residents an alternative to replacing slightly damaged furniture.
“This way, we are trying to fulfil the obligations set out in the Circular Prague 2030 strategy, which focuses on minimising waste generation,” she noted and added that the project will also help residents to become more skilful and practical.
Workshops will be held on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the final one to be held on 24 June.
City authorities pointed out that participants will learn the basics of woodworking and advised them to bring a small piece of furniture to the workshops to repair.
