Prague is considering to create a floating swimming pool on Vltava river

News

The city of Prague, led by mayor Zdenek Hrib, is considering the new project that could restore the phenomenal tradition of river bathing sites.

The project consists of designing a modern, floating swimming pool with adequate facilities which will combine general, social and cultural functions with the recreational and sports ones.

Although there were talks on positioning the floating poll outside of the city center, mayor of Prague now appears to be set on its location near the former fortress of Vyšehrad.

The pool is adequate for all the ages because it would offer many layers of depth. That way, it will also be safe for children and functional for different types of swimming and water activities. Brainwork design studio, the company which is responsible for the round cubicles installed along the city’s Náplavka riverbanks, designed this project as well.

This project was first envisioned by former mayor of Prague Adriana Krnacova but was never implemented. Now, mayor Hrib wants to finally make it happen and bring this amazing project to life.

The cost of the project is expected to go from €6-8 million, according to official estimates.

Mayor Zdenek Hrib says Prague is negotiating with the European Commission to secure EU funds for the revitalization of public spaces across the city. These projects would further transform the city by making it more beautiful and greener, but it would also make Prague much safer. (photo credit: screenshot/Petr Janda/YouTube)
