Prague continues to tackle housing issues in the city
Every year, approximately 10,000 people move to Prague and that is the main reason of constant demand for real estate availability.
Last year, a public service Municipal Rental Agency was established in Prague with the goal of making housing accessible to all the people in housing need.
Mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib is one of the first people in the city who offered his old apartment to the Agency. He now rents his former Vršovice apartment to a single mom with three children and the mayor’s flat is now one of fifteen properties for which the Municipal Rental Agency signed a contract.
“I hope to actively contribute to solving the long-term housing crisis, as a private individual who will rent the flat to the socially disadvantaged”, stated mayor Hřib.
Using the Agency for renting is a safe option for both sides since apartments go through formal selection and the owners do not have any risks associated with finding tenants on their own.
The official number of people registered to live in Prague is far lower than the real number. The Czech Statistics Office official figures put the size of Prague’s population at 1.33 million, but in reality, that number is much bigger and is now roughly 1.57 million. This is why housing in the city of Prague is a serious issue. Now with the Municipal Rental Agency, the city is finally tackling this problem and is providing more and more people with safe options for renting flats. (photo credit: expatz.cz)
