Mayor Zervas supports Thessaloniki’s development since his academic years

Konstantinos Zervas is a Greek politician and the 61st mayor of Thessaloniki who has been holding this position since 2019.

Born in 1964 in Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas comes from a respected family. His mother was philologist, while his father was civil engineer. The work and profession of his father always fascinated him and Konstantinos Zervas followed his steps.

He enrolled into the Experimental school of the University of Thessaloniki. There, he graduated and soon after obtained a scholarship for postgraduate studies at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. Later on, Zervas continued his studies at Brown University in the USA.

After his academic development, Konstantinos Zervas started his professional career. In 1990, he started his office in Thessaloniki as civil engineer. Over the years, he was involved in several major projects in the city. The most notable project was the construction of the Finikas Football Sports Centre.

His office work was noticed and recognized by both the public and private sector. This led to his appointment as Chairman of the State Orchestra Board of Thessaloniki, also known as SOB in 2011. Parallel to this position, Konstantinos Zervas was also elected in 2013 as member of the Central Representation of the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Regional Department of Central Macedonia.

Besides his professional accomplishments, Konstantinos Zervas also has a rich political history. In 2010, due to his influence, he was elected as councilor with the City Council of Thessaloniki. Soon after, he was elected as Deputy Mayor for Environment, Quality of Life and Free Spaces.

In 2013, due to his accomplishments in this position, Konstantinos Zervas was named Permanent Deputy Mayor. His successes were further confirmed in 2014, when he was re-elected as councilor. During his second term, Konstantinos Zervas held the position of Deputy Mayor for Citizen Mobilization, Youth and Sports.

The time as Deputy Mayor served as the basis for his future political successes. In 2018, after his second term ended, Konstantinos Zervas announced his candidacy for the position of mayor of Thessaloniki. He won in the second round with 67% of the votes. This was a historic score for municipal elections of the city.

His main goal as mayor of Thessaloniki is the promotion of local and regional development. Mayor Zervas enhanced this development through supporting different events and conferences. He supported the work of two major event organizers, TIF-HELEXPO and Thessaloniki Convention Bureau.
