Las Palmas helps raise money for children with oncological diseases
Mayor of Las Palmas Augusto Hidalgo attended Pequeño Valiente charity’s solidarity gala to help raise money for children with cancer.
The charity is raising funds for maintenance of a residence in Gran Canaria to provide minors with oncological diseases and their family members a place to stay while they receive medical treatment.
As part of the fifth edition of the event, the charity presented its awards for 2022. Hidalgo presented the award for social work and efforts aimed at increasing inclusion and autonomy of people with disabilities.
He pointed out that the solidarity event drew more than 5,000 attendants and highlighted the importance of supporting the charity’s efforts to improve quality of life of children with cancer and their families.
Pequeño Valiente was founded in 2016 by a group of families whose children were hospitalised with oncological diseases at the Maternal and Children’s Hospital of Gran Canaria. The goal of the charity is to make the treatment process as smooth as possible.
Since its founding, the charity has grown each year and expanded its programme for helping families get through all stages of the treatment process. It provides help to young patients and their families from the moment the child is diagnosed.
Las Palmas councillor for education Lourdes Armadas and councillor for youth Carla Campoamor also attended the charity gala, with national and international artists performing at the event.
