In times of uncertainty, Budapest Spring Festival celebrates unity and togetherness
This year’s edition of the Budapest Spring Festival, one of the largest and most significant cultural events in the Hungarian capital, officially kicked off last week.
Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony stated on social media: ‘’When the organisers came up with the slogan for this year’s festival, “Together is the city!”, they perhaps didn’t realise how poignantly topical this one sentence would be. Because we in the capital are united in the difficult times that await us.’’
‘’The festival, whose opening this year coincided with International Roma Day, will showcase the values we continue to believe in: the importance of Europeanism and sustainability, solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Ukraine,’’ mayor Karácsony further stated.
The Budapest Spring Festival is an annual event that largely focuses on classical music, opera, jazz, dance, theatre and fine arts. The stage adaptation of Kornél Mundruczó’s film Pieces of the Women at the Vgsznház will be one of the highlights of this year’s festival.
The musical part of this iconic event will be equally impressive. For the first time in ten years, the Hungarian capital will host a jazz festival. According to mayor Karácsony, 200 performers will have an opportunity to demonstrate that ‘’world-class Hungarian jazz is an integral part of the world’s musical bloodstream’’ at Jazzfest Budapest this year.
‘’For the second year in a row, the festival will be organised without state support and cooperation, but we have found new allies in the districts, as this year we are organising the festival with seven districts,’’ mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony stated.
‘’Don’t miss out, let’s experience the greatness of Budapest’s diverse culture together again and again,’’ he added. (photo credit: Budapest Spring Festival official website)
