Düsseldorf marks 20 years of partnership with Toulouse
Düsseldorf and Toulouse have marked 20 years of partnership at the end of January.
Lord Mayor of Düsseldorf Stephan Keller attended a meeting with Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc at the Toulouse city hall, with the two later taking part in a conference on intercity friendship.
“This year we are celebrating several anniversaries in the name of Franco-German friendship, because in addition to 60 years of the Élysée Treaty, we in Düsseldorf can look back on 20 years of close city friendship with Toulouse,” Keller pointed out.
He noted that cooperation between the two cities is excellent and added that Düsseldorf wants to continue to strengthen cooperation with Toulouse, especially in the areas of mobility and youth policy.
Düsseldorf and Toulouse are cooperating on the EU Green Heart project as part of which environmental agencies are developing measures to address the challenges of climate change in urban environments.
The cities also run a youth exchange programme in cooperation with Tunis that focuses on bringing together young people interested in discussing climate change.
Since 2015, young people from Düsseldorf and Toulouse have the opportunity to spend several weeks in the other city as part of an internship during the summer holidays.
Besides summer jobs, the two cities also facilitate student exchange between schools and universities.
