Prague has approved the proposal to exchange real estate with the Czech Republic, stressing that the move will allow both sides to manage their properties more effectively.

Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda pointed out that the state-owned building on Hybernská Street is a part of the Hybernská Campus and added that acquisition will help the city to strengthen its cooperation with universities.

City authorities noted that Prague will hand over its real estate that is part of the Bulovka University Hospital to the state and in return get properties in Hybernská Street, Karlínská barracks and other state-owned properties.

Councillor Adam Zábranský pointed out “Prague’s huge years-long effort to acquire a key property from the state has been completed,” adding that he is looking forward to reconstruction.

He stressed the importance of breathing new life into unused properties and noted that Prague could replace Karlínská barracks with a science and technology park.

Zábranský pointed out that Prague will continue talks with the state as it wants to take ownership of other properties to develop affordable housing.

Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib noted that Prague needs more apartments, which is why it will continue negotiations with the state on exchange of additional properties.

City authorities noted that Prague will pay the state for the difference in estimated value of exchanged properties.
