Budapest to regulate display of hoardings and advertisements on buildings
Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony announced on social media that the Hungarian capital will be taking extra steps in order to regulate the display of hoardings and advertisements on buildings around the city.
Mayor Karácsony stated on social media: ‘’By clarifying the regulations, advertising hoardings and their supporting and lighting structures that extend over the pavements on the facades of buildings bordering the public areas of the capital can only be installed with the permission of the owner of the public area, i.e. the municipality, and the actual advertising surface cannot exceed 9 square metres.’’
‘’In practice, this also allows for the removal of advertising hoardings which have been installed irregularly without a permit,’’ mayor Karácsony added.
Furthermore, the mayor of Budapest will implement more measures which are meant to improve the quality of life in the city. This concerns the introduction of more so-called micromobility points, where residents will be able to pick up or drop off shared scooters.
‘’With these points, we will ensure that there are no more scooters and bicycles lying around the city. Over 300 parking points will be set up during the spring months, in partnership with the districts. We will continue to expand the network in the coming months,’’ mayor Karácsony stated.
Mayor of Budapest also pointed out the importance of taking good care of public areas. He highlighted that the public interest in Hungary is frequently overshadowed by private interests, resulting in public space often being ‘’eaten up’’ in an already densely populated urban area.
‘’For example, when we leave scooters littering the squares, and also when we illegally treat our beautiful buildings as billboards. Let’s put a stop to that,’’ mayor Karácsony urged. (photo credit: Rudy and Peter Skitterians/Pixabay)
