Bremen combines climate action and job creation with a package of measures
Bremen has approved a package of measures from the climate protection strategy for the period up to 2038.
Mayor of Bremen Andreas Bovenschulte pointed out that the city took another decisive step to prepare for the future and protect jobs.
City authorities noted that one of the measures focuses on optimisation of transport, with infrastructure and regulation to prioritise public transport. Additional bus stops will be constructed and existing ones adapted to expand the public transport network and connect busy parts of the city.
Planned changes and introduction of electric vehicles will cut CO2 emissions by an estimated 2,500 tonnes annually as well as make more room for cyclists and pedestrians.
City authorities pointed out that public transport has to reach 20% of total volume of traffic in the coming years to reach climate targets.
As part of the approved package, Bremen has earmarked EUR 62.4 million for improving energy efficiency of municipal buildings this year, pointing out that the move will help the city to become carbon neutral b 2038.
The move includes installation of solar panels, modern insulation and other technologies aimed at lowering energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Approved measures also support innovation and development of hydrogen technologies, which city authorities note will create new jobs.
