Barcelona expands charging station network

Barcelona is planning to expand its charging station network to 1,000 charging points this year.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau pointed out that the project will be implemented by Endolla Barcelona public charging station network.

In 2022, the network boasted 16,036 users, up 68% compared to 2021, and provided more than twice as much power through recharging.

Barcelona pointed out that 2022 saw the largest number of users since the launch of the service.

Endolla Barcelona announced plans to continue expanding the charging network and improve quality of service, stressing that approximately 300 new charging points will come online across Barcelona this year.

New charging points will be located in car parks, where roughly 7 out of 10 existing points are concentrated.

City authorities pointed out that the approach guarantees homogeneous expansion throughout Barcelona and facilitates the transition towards electric vehicles.

In addition, the approach will minimise the use of public space and potential problems associated with parking. City authorities stressed that the number of charging points on the streets, designed for unplanned top-ups, will remain stable.

Endolla Barcelona is the largest public charging station network in Spain and puts Barcelona at the top of electric mobility cities in the EU. Barcelona has the second highest number of charging points per square kilometre in the EU, behind Stockholm, and the fourth in the number of charging points per capita, behind Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo.
