The Alicante Tourist Board promoted the city’s tourism on the UK market at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London. While Mayor of Alicante Luis Barcala did not attend the WTM, Deputy Mayor and head of the Alicante Tourist Board Mari Carmen Sánchez was there with a delegation.

City authorities pointed out that Britain is the main source market for Alicante’s tourism, with Sánchez pointing out that she was very happy with promotion at the WTM.

“We are very satisfied because we arrived with our homework done and the contacts made these days will be very valuable for the promotion of Alicante on the British market,” she stressed.

Sánchez pointed out that the delegation attended meeting with travel agencies, tour operators and tourism companies including the TUI Group and Ryanair, among other.

The delegation discussed possibilities for cooperation in different segments of tourism, including sports, conferences, events and more.

While the number of British tourists in Alicante dropped in recent years due to the coronavirus crisis, it has started to recover.

“Good air connection with the UK are essential to return to pre-coronavirus figures,” Sánchez stressed and added “in this sense, we anticipate that the upward trend will continue.”

She concluded that tourism needs to anticipate trends and meet the needs and expectations of tourists, not only from the UK but also from other markets in Europe.
