Alicante launches project to fight child poverty
Alicante has launched a project in cooperation with la Caixa foundation to overcome child poverty.
Headed by Mayor of Alicante Luis Barcala, city authorities stressed that the project focuses on supporting families with children and adolescents in vulnerable situations.
Councillor for social action Julia Llopis noted that the project focuses on families in the North Zone and added that city authorities and la Caixa analysed the situations of vulnerable families.
She added that the project will help to curb child poverty in the area, lowering social vulnerability and risk of exclusion.
“With this agreement, the City Council, social entities and the la Caixa foundation will jointly identify and analyze the situations of poverty, social vulnerability and risk of exclusion existing in the municipality, and more specifically between 50 families,” Llopis pointed out.
She added that the project brings together public and private resources and stressed “the fight against social exclusion, child poverty and the vulnerability of children and adolescents is a priority objective that concerns us.”
Alicante noted that the project helped 23,793 children since its launch in 2007, stressing that it served approximately 14,200 families.
Llopis thanked everyone who contributed and concluded that the city will continue to support its most vulnerable residents.
