Alicante grants EUR 100,000 to neighbourhood associations projects
Alicante has allocated EUR 100,000 to neighbourhood associations, noting that the money will be used to finance projects and operation of associations.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Alicante Luis Barcala pointed out that the money comes on top of EUR 250,000 previously set aside for neighbourhood associations.
Head of the department of citizen participation Manuel Jiménez noted that 35 neighbourhood associations will use the money to cover their operating expenses and finance courses and workshops.
He stressed the importance of providing financial support to neighbourhoods and cooperating on development of local projects, which he sees as “one of the backbones of society.”
Jiménez added that neighbourhood associations rely to a large extent on municipal funding and noted that Alicante wants to help local entities to implement projects tailored to their specific needs.
City authorities pointed out that El Eco del Barrio del Pla neighbourhood association will receive the smallest amount (EUR 576.09) while its counterpart Carolinas Altas-Bola de Oro will receive 6,111.96, the most of all neighbourhood associations.
Alicante authorities approved 41 projects and financing for 135 local associations as part of the programme.
The city concluded that it will continue to cooperate with neighbourhood associations and support their operation and projects with subsidies and grants.
