Verona has launched the Blue Week project aimed at raising awareness about autism.

Headed by Mayor of Verona Damiano Tommasi, city authorities joined forces with the Blue Heart Foundation to raise awareness and money to build a centre for children and young people with autism to meet and socialise.

As part of the project, Verona organised an exhibition of watercolours by artists who joined the Brush Strokes of Autism project, noting that the works will be on display until 11 December.

Besides the exhibition, the project includes meetings, workshops and shows to raise awareness about the needs of autistic people and create a welcoming social climate to help them integrate.

Councillor Luisa Ceni noted “we strongly support these initiatives that aim to raise awareness among citizens of the reality of autism” and thanked partner associations for their dedication.

City authorities pointed out that the project will provide support to autistic people and their families, stressing that the children and youth centre will provide opportunities for autistic people to socialise and offer relief to their families.

Blue Heart Foundation head Cristina Bosio stressed that the organisation was founded to help families and added that it needs everyone’s help to achieve its goals.

She noted that the planned centre will be open even during weekends to better help families plan their time and activities.
