Mayor of Palma, José Hila, government leader, Francina Armengol and Minister of Mobility and Housing, Josep Marí laid the first stone of a new development of 35 social housing units.

The building which is being constructed in the Llevant-La Soledat neighbourhood will contain 24 one-bedroom apartments, eight with two-bedrooms and three with three-bedrooms. Three properties will be specially adapted for people with disabilities. It will also have 35 parking spaces for residents.

There is a tremendous need for social housing in Palma and the Council has donated the land free of charge in order to allow the Government to undertake this very necessary construction which will be an example of energy efficiency, sustainability and accessibility, reports Euro Weekly News.

President Armengol stated: “The Government has the highest budget in the history of the Balearics for social housing worth €64 million. 2021 will end with 1,000 more homes under construction or out for tender”.

Minister Marí stated: “Currently, 578 HPOs are being built in 22 developments, of which 15 are in Mallorca and 8 in Palma. These homes are offered at a ‘social rent’, so no family pays more than 30 per cent of their income”.
