The new, third metro line for Toulouse was officially presented: the work will take six years and the line will cover 27 km from east to west of the Toulouse metropolitan area with 21 stations in total.

This new line has been discussed from 2014: there was a big debate about it in 2016, a declaration on the common good in 2019, a new election campaign in 2020, and then the pandemic postponed everything until now.

Now, in 2021, the final preliminary draft has been approved and it is moving from the study phase to the implementation phase.

Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc said: “You can now see that what we have been talking was solid and serious. The third metro line is about to get materialized”.

The start of work is planned for the end of 2022 with preparations, while the next four years, from 2023 to 2027 will be the busiest ones with more than 40 construction sites along the city at the same time.

The estimated cost of this huge infrastructure project is €2.629 billions, with the addition €27 million for the airport line and the connection to line B (€195 millions), meaning the total investment will be more than €4 billions by 2030.

Although there are still some permits to be obtained (environmental permit, buying lang), the preparatory works have already begun, and the first tests are planned for early 2028. Photo: scoopcube
