A 100% human energy tree lights up in Nantes
Ludik Energie installed their Christmas tree bike for the first time in France. It can be visited at Place du Commerce until January 3, 2021 – discover this astonishing tree which is fueled by the energy of everyone who wants to give it a try. In order to light up the 2,550 leds, people have to pedal on one of the eight bicycles that generate electricity, two of which are for children.
This Nantes’ Christmas tree bike was inspired by the “Pixel Trees” and it is a unique light animation in France. To make the experience even more fun, the cyclists are divided into four teams, each symbolized by a color. The harder the participants pedal, the more electricity they produce, the more the tree lights up with their color. Blue, yellow, purple and orange dominate according to the energy of each team. The victory is symbolized by the star of the tree lit in their color.
“In a context where eco ‐ responsibility is becoming a constant focus, particularly on the occasion of the end of the year festivities, the 100% human energy tree succeeds in offering a sober and energy autonomous installation”, indicates Matthieu Pénet, director of Ludik Energie, the Rennes company behind this event. Around the Christmas tree bike, the decoration has been designed in this sense to limit its environmental impact: use of reused pallets after dismantling, limitation of plastic elements and a fully reusable device with a minimum of waste.
Placed next to the tree, a large gift package serving as an energy meter will accumulate the number of hours spent by the people of Nantes during the 16 days of operation. “Both literally and figuratively,” emphasizes Matthieu Pénet, “our generator bikes illustrate our message for this new year: What if you were the energy tomorrow?”
