Alicante’s Museum of Contemporary Art soon to be expanded
Alicante’s Museum of Contemporary Art, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo MACA, will soon be expanded thanks to 500,000 euros investment.
Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, had a huge impact on this investment: “Both the donation and the renewal of the agreement, of great importance for the city of Alicante, have made it unavoidable for us to tackle the expansion of MACA, which is already one of the main museums of contemporary art in Spain and which we want to consolidate in order to raise the level of the cultural offer of the city”. Mayor Barcala added: “Culture, works of art, in addition to the immense value they have for themselves, are also vital to boost economic activity in a sector as vital to us as tourism.”
The architects of MACA, Sol Madridejos and Juan Carlos Sancho, already outlined a proposal that includes an access to the museum through Jorge Juan Street, which would cross the Plaza de Santa María and reach the warehouses, and the construction of Annex space at the rear of the building. It will be this project from which we will work, as stated by the Councilor for Culture, Antonio Manresa, since these are the two initiatives “in which we are going to work with this project”, reports thesaxon.org.
Furthermore, MACA will receive a collection of 291 works which are valued at 2,000,000 euros. Photo credit: preprod.technal.com
