Budapest has implemented its youth participation initiative, with Young Budapest working group holding its founding meeting.

Headed by Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony, city authorities pointed out that the group will help to increase youth participation and strengthen cooperation with civil society organisations.

The group is to ensure continuous consultation between city authorities and the civil society, and put forward proposals to improve cooperation.

All civil society organisations based in Budapest can apply for membership, with city authorities stressing that they have to be active for at least one year in order to apply.

Deputy Mayor Anett Bősz opened the meeting and stressed the importance of implementing policies to help young residents take part in decision-making processes.

Attendants of the founding meeting discussed Budapest’s youth policies, participation of high school and university students, new policy proposals and existing youth participation measures and mechanisms.

Representatives of civil organisations introduced their groups and discussed their expectations from the new forum and local authorities, noting that the founding meeting offered opportunities for networking and professional cooperation.

Budapest’s youth policy specialists attended the meeting and introduced themselves as well as the policies implemented and planned in their districts.
