Alicante will boost culture and education with the new José Tomás Music Conservatory

Alicante has decided to donate 12,000 square metres of land to Valencian authorities for the new José Tomás Music Conservatory.

Headed by Mayor of Alicante Luis Barcala, city authorities will speed up processing and cadastral registration to make sure the project is implemented as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Councillor Adrián Santos Pérez reminded that the initial proposal for securing a plot for the music conservatory was not viable due to negative effects of construction on a nearby protected area.

The initially proposed area also raised questions about accessibility and was not in line with Alicante’s efforts to become greener and more inclusive.

He added that the City Council presented the Ministry of Education with five potential locations for the project after the Ministry’s initial proposal was rejected and approved the plan to build the music conservatory in PAU 5.

City authorities pointed out that a broad agreement on the project has been reached with relevant bodies and associations, and noted that the plot in question is large enough to build the music conservatory.

Alicante added that the project will offer education opportunities and stimulate urban growth, reiterating that municipal authorities will support it in all stages.

City authorities concluded that the music conservatory will have to comply with new building regulations that were adopted after the initial project was drafted.
