Barcelona partners with US and Catalan companies to develop new charging stations
Barcelona has prepared two charging station pilot projects under the 2030 innovation programme.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau reminded that the competition to design innovative charging stations was launched last year.
Barcelona invited proposals for development of one flexible and one low-cost charging station, noting that the pilot projects will be implemented in the first half of 2024.
The two pilot projects are worth roughly EUR 160,000, with US company EV Safe Charge to develop and build a flexible charging point for 90,000 and Catalan company teknoCEA to develop and build a low-cost charging point for 70,000.
City authorities pointed out that EV Safe Charge will build a mobile charging point that can cover several parking spaces while staying connected to the Barcelona network and applications for communication with users.
On the other hand, teknoCEA is to develop a new charging point that is easy to maintain and cheap to produce. It will build five charging points that cost less than EUR 250 per unit to produce.
City authorities pointed out that teknoCEA is a spin-off company from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) and added that the pilot project will be tested with users of the municipal electromobility network Endolla Barcelona.
