Alicante invests in new lighting to save energy
Alicante is investing more than EUR 500,000 in new lighting to save energy, noting that the project will be completed this month.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Alicante Luis Barcala pointed out that public lighting in the Old Town has been replaced with more efficient LED.
The move has lowered consumption of electricity, which contributes to the green push and lowers expenditures.
Councillor for infrastructure José Ramón González pointed out that the city administration remains focused on improving energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy.
He noted that replacing old lighting will lower CO2 emissions as well as light pollution, helping the city to reach environmental targets.
González added that new lighting will make Alicante more attractive as a tourist destination, noting that the city hall will have new exterior lighting by the end of January.
He pointed out that the new lighting system allows “a play of lights that can be carried out electronically through new technologies,” stressing that it will be used for events and celebrations.
This will be “the first project with which we will be able to illuminate our beloved square and the city hall building,” González added and expressed hope that new lighting will make all residents proud.
He concluded that new lighting systems can be centrally controlled, which will allow city authorities to cut power consumption and save energy.
