150 brand new environmentally-friendly buses for Budapest next year
Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony has announced the arrival of 150 new environmentally-friendly buses for the Hungarian capital.
Mayor Karácsony stated on social media: ‘’We signed the contract: brand new, environmentally friendly buses will arrive in Budapest next year.’’
He explained that the Hungarian city was committed to its long-term strategy which focuses on climate protection and sustainability, despite economic challenges and difficulties.
‘’Despite the inflation, the economic and energy crisis, and even the cutbacks, which we haven’t seen since 1998, we are not stopping and we are improving public transport in Budapest, just as I promised: in the most environmentally friendly way possible,’’ Mayor Karácsony stressed.
‘’In this spirit, a very significant fleet of brand new buses will be put into service in the capital next year. 75 solo and 75 articulated, air-conditioned, low-floor and environmentally-friendly vehicles will serve the people of Budapest,’’ he further stated.
In addition, according to Mayor Karácsony, the new buses will be built to the highest environmental standards and will be suitable for pushchair users, elderly passengers, and persons with limited mobility.
‘’They, therefore, fit in well with Budapest’s long-term strategy, which focuses on environmental and climate protection, sustainable energy management, and reducing the ecological footprint,’’ the mayor of the Hungarian capital stated.
Because fewer people drive single-occupancy cars, using public transportation naturally benefits the environment.
Additionally, environmentally harmful carbon dioxide emissions are reduced as a result of the use of sustainable transportation options, lowering atmospheric pollution and enhancing air quality in urban areas. (photo credit: Keszthelyi Timi/Unsplash)
