Limassol keeps getting greener thanks to mayor Nicolaides
Nicos Nicolaides is the current mayor of Limassol, the second-largest city in Cyprus and one of the most important business centres on the island. Nicolaides was born in Limassol in 1953. He earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering after attending Dartmouth College and the University of Southern California. Mayor Nicolaides is behind numerous great projects and initiatives in Limassol which are constantly improving the living conditions in this Cypriot city.
Limassol is on its journey to becoming more sustainable and environmentally friendly, thanks to the amazing efforts of mayor Nicolaides. Various green projects are underway in the city with the purpose of making it more environmentally friendly. In Limassol, a city that is constantly developing and improving its image, recycling is also becoming increasingly important. This spring, the municipality launched a campaign titled “We Recycle for a Clean Limassol” which aims to inform people about the importance and benefits of recycling.
The Municipality of Limassol has recently also presented the plans for the Third Environmental Neighbourhood, which will be made in the area of St. Nicholas. The project is part of the efforts to upgrade the neighbourhoods of Limassol with the goal of improving the quality of life, safe use of the road network, and the creation of sports and green spaces. The project will include paving sidewalks, creating parking spaces and cycling pathways, enhancing vegetation, and constructing a skatepark.
The other two ‘’environmental neighbourhoods’’ of St. Spyridon and Omonia are already under construction. There, local roads have been reconstructed based on the design to provide safety for walkers and cyclists. Mayor Nicolaides’ goal is to bring in features that will make residents’ life more comfortable, easier and healthier. Furthermore, mayor Nicolaides regularly supports different projects and initiatives aimed at modernising the city’s existing infrastructure. He is also committed to improving the living conditions for people with reduced mobility and makes sure that Limassol is an accessible city that everyone can enjoy. (photo credit: wikimedia)
