Jacek Majchrowski has been mayor of Krakow since 2002 and he is currently serving his fifth term as the city leader.

From the beginning, his focus is on making the city of Krakow more eco-friendly by launching many projects that involve cutting emissions, improving air quality and thermal modernization. All the projects have the intention of improving the living quality of the residents and focusing on environmental care.

These projects also include establishing forests, like the project of establishing Primeval forest in honour to celebrate and Olga Tokarczuks’ winning of the Nobel Prize for literature.

Recently, mayor of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski stated via social media: ” This year we have planted over 50,000 trees in Krakow. The trees are mainly in standard size, but there are also some over 8 metres tall”.

Forests, parks and green spaces play a very important role in the fight against climate change and mayor Majchrowski’s mission is to join the group of Polish cities where forests cover 40% of the city’s surface. His afforestation plan assumes that by 2040 forests will cover 8% of Krakow’s area. By planting more than 50,000 trees this year in Krakow, Jacek Majchrowski is coming one step closer to accomplishing his plan of making the city greener.
