After the actions carried out over the past year in various docks of the port, in which close to fifty tons of waste were removed, the Vigo Port Authority has just completed the planned cleanings in the area of the Repair Dock and the Dock number 1 of Bouzas.

After four days of work, they have managed to remove about 30 tons of very bulky and heavy waste, such as heavy concrete, tangles of rigging, steel cables, a significant amount of tires and other waste. Likewise, metal structures, ropes, scrapping waste, such as metals and plastics, engine remains, plastic tubes, batteries, three pressurized gas bottles and several bags of batteries have also been rescued.

“Thanks to the close collaboration with Vigo Port Authority, practically 100% of the waste has been removed,” says Jesús Vázquez Almuíña.

The work carried out in the last weeks in Bouzas has been “especially laborious and slow”, due to the fact that there was a large amount of residue and mud that made visibility very limited. In addition, docked boats have slowed down operations, since the safety of divers must always be guaranteed.

So far, a large amount of waste has been removed from the bottoms of several port docks, specifically in the area of A Laxe, the central dock for nautical-sports use, dock number 2 in Bouzas and from the area of the Reparations Dock and the Bouzas dock number 1.
