Valladolid renovates sports centre with new athletics track
Valladolid has completed renovation of the Ciudad de Valladolid sports complex worth EUR 460,000.
Mayor of Valladolid Óscar Puente inaugurated the new athletics track of the complex with city officials, noting that the sport complex was opened more than four decades ago.
Besides the athletics track, the complex has an archery range, a rugby field and a golf course, among other.
“Today is a great day for athletics and sports in our city,” Puente stressed and noted that the lion’s share of the money was spent on renovation of the track, which now has a new, synthetic surface.
The new surface has a high capacity for impact and energy absorption and is non-slip, which will improve safety and comfort of athletes. The surface drains easily, which makes it more suitable for competitions and training.
The Mayor pointed out that the surface is made of environmentally friendly materials and can be recycled, noting that the sports centre has a long future ahead of it with proper maintenance.
Puente stressed that city authorities renovated the track “with the best on the market… it is approved by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation and can host the best competitions.”
Commenting on plans for the future, he noted that Valladolid needs a medium-sized stadium to host rugby competitions and concluded that city authorities will decide how to proceed in the coming period.
