Valladolid modernises public lighting, expands green and pedestrian areas

Valladolid is modernising its public lighting and expanding green and pedestrian areas as part of a broader redevelopment project.

Mayor of Valladolid Óscar Puente visited the areas in question with other city officials and representatives of local communities in November.

The project is focused on modernisation of infrastructure and expansion of green areas in different neighbourhoods to improve quality of life. As part of expansion of green areas, Valladolid is installing new benches and dustbins as well as planting new trees and greenery.

The city launched the project earlier this year, but it was stopped in June as the contractor could not complete it. A new contractor started working on the project in August, with city authorities using the time to review the scope of the project and expand it.

Efforts aimed at expansion of green areas also include the building of flowerbeds. Valladolid authorities pointed out that new benches will be placed in areas shaded by trees and added that dustbins will be installed nearby.

As part of the project, Valladolid modernised the drainage and wastewater network as well as installed an irrigation network to supply the newly built green areas.

In addition, authorities expanded the subterranean network to allow telecommunications companies to bury the remainder of their cables. The project is worth roughly EUR 415,000.
