Valladolid invests in community-driven urban development
Valladolid has earmarked nearly EUR 250,000 for resident participation this year, up roughly 20% compared to last year.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Valladolid Óscar Puente pointed out that the increase will help neighbourhoods to organise events and encourage residents to take a more active role in urban development.
Valladolid noted that it will spend approximately 77.44% more money on efforts to increase resident participation this year compared to 2015.
Councillor Alberto Bustos pointed out that city authorities want to create the tools and secure the resources to help neighbourhood associations improve quality of life for the residents.
“The contribution to the neighbourhood movement cannot be considered an expense but a true investment, extraordinarily profitable both socially and economically,” he stressed.
Bustos noted that the number of activities and projects implemented through neighbourhood associations is impressive, especially considering how modest the spending is compared to other municipal items.
City authorities pointed out that Valladolid maintains close contact with representatives of neighbourhoods, which helps to prepare joint projects and increase resident participation.
Valladolid concluded that improving quality of life in neighbourhoods has positive effects on the city as a whole, which is why city authorities have been increasing allocation for this purpose in recent years.
