Valladolid investing in new environmental youth centre in Pinar de Antequera park
Valladolid is planning to invest EUR 1.7 million in a new environmental youth centre in Pinar de Antequera park.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Valladolid Óscar Puente pointed out that the EU is co-financing the project with more than EUR 1 million.
The department of education and youth noted that the EU is co-financing the project through the programme for rehabilitation of public buildings (PIREP) under the recovery and resilience framework.
City authorities will use the money to rehabilitate the old recreation club in the park that was inaugurated in 1907 and transform it into a modern youth centre.
The abandoned building has a total surface area of nearly 1,300 square metres and is in poor repair, with Valladolid pointing out that it will require structural repairs.
The project will improve energy efficiency of the building, which will help to lower energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
The youth centre will provide environmental education, host activities related to the 2030 agenda and an environmental library as well as promote cooperation with neighbourhood associations, among other.
Councillor María Victoria Soto noted that the centre will promote healthy leisure among youth, respect and responsibility towards the environment and habitual use of municipal spaces.
She concluded that the new youth centre will help to achieve objectives set out in the municipal youth plan.
