The Catania Book Festival Etnabook is back
Etnabook, second act. After the debut with a bang last year very crowded all the activities, Etnabook will return from 25 to 27 September in compliance with the rules imposed by the ongoing health emergency.
The project of the cultural revival of the city is a restart that is already a victory given the difficult months that we are leaving behind. “We believe it is the right choice to make alliances with those who work on promoting reading,” told the Councilor Mirabella. “The organizers put into a project a great effort. The pandemic wiped out of the culture sector, but the authors have dared to continue. And with them the jurors, the winners, the public, which will be numerous even in strict compliance with anti-COVID regulations. We can only be happy to take part of the road together“.
Highlighting the difficulties encountered in the course of implementation of this second edition, the chairman Cirino Cristaldi explains: “Ours is a young festival, which aims to root itself in the coming years with more important guests and events. We want to offer to the city of Catania a pool full of authors, editors, important texts, which can be engaged with important issues, and resonate especially with young people. This is what we will try to do with the various events that we will reveal in detail during the festival”.
We are highly satisfied with the participation in the Culture under the volcano Etnabook literary prize, chaired by Salvatore Massimo Fazio“ underlines Cristaldi, “a literary contest of very significant national authors. Despite pandemic crises, we made an effort not to get down by persisting with scheduling our events anyway, starting with Sicily International Short League, partner of Etnabook, one of the very first events held in our Region after the lockdown. Proof that with passion, commitment, and goodwill even a difficult time like the pandemic can be defeated“.
“It ‘been a long, complex, painstaking effort,” says the chairman, “a bit prophetically, we decided to dedicate this year to the theme of Metamorfosis. This was truly a time of great transformation. The concept of metamorphosis can be applied to many situations in life, and certainly also to a pandemic with tens of thousands of deaths on the field, hundreds of thousands of infected people, and countless families in difficulty. Our country has shown the ability to react and resilience, and we are here to say that is possible to make a fresh start”.
To mention some distinguished names who will participate in this edition: Sara Adorno as the moderator of the press conference. September 25th will be the opening evening with an award ceremony presented by Paolo Maria Noseda (cultural popularizer and well-known interpreter of the Che tempo che fa program) accompanied by the Sicilian actress Ester Pantano, along with the participation of laureates, various personalities who have distinguished themselves for their commitment to culture, such as Antonio Caprarica, Barbara Tabita, Mario Incudine, Leonardo Lodato, Andrea Pitrolino, Giovanni Di Stefano, Fabiola Foti, Gianni Nicola Caracoglia, Fernando Massimo Adonia, Daniele Lo Porto, and Luca Vullo.
Worth mentioning is also Spazio Editori, the competition dedicated to book trailers, a section solely dedicated to the cinematographic transposition of literature organized in collaboration with the Dirty Dozen Association, and also an ad hoc section dedicated to children, EtnaKids, curated by Matilde Leonforte. In short, this is a second crackling edition for the international book festival under the volcano.
