The Finnish city of Tampere remains an extremely attractive place to live, a recent economic study found. According to a press release published by the city of Tampere, 36% of Finns aged 15-79 would consider living in this Finnish city, which is also the largest inland centre in the Nordic countries.

Mayor of Tampere Anna-Kaisa Ikonen stated: ‘’Welcome! It is great that Tampere is of interest to many people. The city continues to live and develop all the time and it certainly attracts many people. We still have to work to ensure that the services work, everyday life is comfortable, there is enough spending, and that there is a wide range of homes available for different life situations.’’

In the study, Helsinki turned out to be the second most popular city in Finland in this regard, with 31% of Finns saying they could see themselves living in the Finnish capital. Turku ranked third on the list, with 27% of surveyed residents expressing a willingness to live there.

The survey also looked at how municipalities are perceived as places to live in general. Tampere was awarded the highest overall score of 8.01 in this category as well. For comparison, the average rating for all municipalities across Finland that were included in the survey was around 6.3.

Residents who participated in the survey praised Tampere for its services and studying opportunities, as well for its rich cultural life and a diverse offer of leisure activities. Furthermore, young people gave Tampere an especially high rating in the survey.

‘’The results show that Tampere is an attractive city for students and culture and that efforts have been made in this area. However, the pandemic period has been difficult for young people and students,’’ mayor Ikonen further stated.

Mayor of Tampere also expressed hope that students who were previously unable to enjoy the city during the coronavirus pandemic will be able to do so in the future. (photo credit: Juho Luomala/Pixabay)
