Strasbourg continues to invest in energy efficiency of residential buildings, pointing out that all residents benefit from energy efficient apartment buildings.

Under Mayor of Strasbourg Jeanne Barseghian, city authorities launched the energy efficiency project in 2022 to stimulate energy renovation of residential buildings.

The project includes awareness-raising activities and targets co-owners, with city authorities stressing that it will help in the fight against climate change.

Strasbourg noted that the building sector accounts for roughly 44% of energy consumption of the French people and generates about 27% of greenhouse gas emissions.

City authorities pointed out that apartment buildings account for approximately 54% of housing in Strasbourg, stressing that many have an energy rating between D and G, the medium and bottom categories, respectively.

The city administration noted that low energy efficiency presents a problem, which can be addressed by making it easier for co-owners to take action. As part of the project, Strasbourg will take several actions by the end of the year.

Energy renovation includes installation of better insulation, optimisation of ventilation and heating, and installation of renewable energy systems, among other.

City authorities concluded that investments in energy efficiency provide more comfort in summer and winter, reduction of energy consumption and lower energy bills, and increase value of the property.
