Sofia: Plans approved to repair 700 000 km2 of sidewalks

The new program for repairing sidewalks was approved by a large majority of the Sofia Municipal Council, mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova announced. 

The mayor of the Bulgarian capital stated that the city’s goal was to repair about 700,000 square meters of sidewalks in all areas in the upcoming two or three years.

Mayor Fandakova stated on social media: ‘’Within three months, together with the mayors of the regions, we will prepare the plans for work on the program and selection criteria.’’

‘’Not less than 30% of the amount will be given directly to the district mayors and we will implement the rest together. The provided financing amounts to BGN 120 million (60 million euro),’’ mayor Fandakova further stated.

Mayor of Sofia also stated that the city will also assign additional experts for each region to oversee the work on site to ensure greater control over the quality of the contractors’ work.

Sidewalks provide a number of advantages, including increased safety and  mobility, which is why the new programme is certain to benefit all Sofia residents and boost the quality of life in the Bulgarian capital. (photo credit:Natalya Letunova/Unsplash)

‘’I thank the councillors from all political groups who supported the pavements programme,’’ mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova also stated.
