Reims transforms Henri Paris Street park into a green oasis for residents

Reims is redeveloping the park in Henri Paris Street for EUR 1.5 million, noting that 1.2 hectares will be redeveloped.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Reims Arnaud Robinet pointed out that the planting phase is underway, as part of which students attend education courses on environmental protection.

Reims noted that parks improve biodiversity in the city, serve as a carbon reservoir, fight against the heat island effect and help with management of surface runoff, among other.

The project started last year, with city authorities reminding that Reims wants to expand green areas to make sure all residents have access to public spaces for leisure and relaxation within 300 metres from their home.

In consultation with residents, Reims decided to build a play area for children as well as a garden and infrastructure for holding cultural events in the park.

City authorities pointed out that new lighting will be solar-powered and added that park furniture will include picnic tables, playground equipment and more.

As part of the project, Reims will plant more than 40 species of trees and 150 species of shrubs and perennials, which will contribute to biodiversity and help to improve air quality in the city.

The park will be fenced off and closed at night, with city authorities pointing out that public entrances will be designed to prevent motor vehicles from entering.
