Reims prioritizes cleaner air and healthier lives through emissions control
Introduction of emissions rules has improved air quality in Reims, with pollutant levels dropping below relevant thresholds.
Mayor of Reims Arnaud Robinet reminded that traffic restrictions and other emissions rules were put in place as part of a broader package of environmental measures.
He added that, in light of these positive results, city authorities will delay the planned ban on the Crit’Air 3 category of vehicles that was to come into force at the start of 2024. The ban will be delayed five years and is to come into effect in 2029.
Reims reminded that traffic in the city centre was restricted in 2022, when the Crit’Air 5 category was banned, and added that emissions rules were tightened this year with the ban of the Crit’Air 4 category.
City authorities stressed that Reims will continue to encourage residents and companies to purchase less polluting vehicles by upping subsidies for purchase of new or used electric vehicles.
Subsidies for the purchase of Crit’Air 1 and 2 category vehicles will be increased from roughly EUR 15,000 to 21,000, with Reims noting that the move will support the transition away from more polluting vehicles.
City authorities reminded that residents and people who work in Reims can buy passes that allow them to use their polluting vehicles in low-emission zones up to 52 days per year.
