Padua announced an Ecological Sunday for 6 November, stressing that traffic will be restricted in the historic city centre from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Under Mayor of Padua Sergio Giordani, the city decided to introduce the Ecological Sunday as part of a broader package of measures aimed at improving air quality.

City authorities pointed out that one Sunday each month will be an Ecological Sunday, from 1 October to 30 April next year, noting that traffic restrictions will be imposed on monthly basis.

All vehicles with internal combustion engines, including hybrid vehicles, will be banned from entering the historic city centre on Ecological Sundays, with city authorities noting that residents will be allowed access.

Public transport, emergency vehicles, bicycles and those with special approval will also be allowed to enter the centre.

City authorities pointed out that residents can download and fill out special access forms, stressing that they have to be signed and include place and time of departure, destination and purpose of travel.

The forms must be displayed prominently and presented to police officers who request them, with city authorities stressing that local police assesses and approves the forms on a case-by-case basis.

People who violate Ecological Sunday traffic restrictions will be fined EUR 87, with the fine cut to 60.90 if it is paid in up to five days.

As part of the Ecological Sunday, various events will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the city centre.
