Newly elected Mayor of Bucharest Nicusor Dan takes office on Thursday

Nicusor Dan is confirmed as Mayor General, one month after he won the local elections in Bucharest, on September 27, with 42.81% of the votes.

After the inauguration and taking office on Thursday, October 29 the elected general mayor will have a series of meetings with the officials on legal emergencies, the financial situation of the City Hall and subordinate institutions, as well as the health crisis.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal confirmed Nicusor Dan’s mandate as mayor of the Capital. The court rejected all appeals against his confirmation. The confirmation of Nicusor Dan’s term as general mayor was challenged in 52 appeals.

“The 52 requests for appeal because of ridiculous reasons. There is talk of electoral fraud in the same conspiratorial style with the requests that are copy/paste, including the grammatical mistakes from one to the other”, said the elected mayor of the Capital.

The independent candidate Nicusor Dan won the elections for the Capital City Hall, with 42.81%, representing 282,631 of the votes, according to the final data of the local elections in Bucharest published on the official website.

His main opponent, former mayor Gabriela Firea, gathered 37.97% of Bucharest’s preferences, representing 250,690 votes.

“See you at the taking the oath, and then, day by day, as partners”, wrote the newly confirmed mayor on his social media profile, after finding out the Court’s decision.
