New electric buses will soon be buzzing through the streets of the Italian city of Genoa. According to mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, the arrival of new buses will mark a significant step in the electrification of the local public transportation system.

Mayor Bucci stated on social media: ‘’For the first time in Genoa, Amt’s new 12-metre electric buses will enter service, a fundamental step towards the progressive electrification of public transport in the city. By July, 30 new electric vehicles of this size will be operational.’’

These are buses with a total capacity of 83 passengers, 20 of which are seating spots. They are also wheelchair accessible, have a low floor, and are equipped with air conditioning system with heat pump, security cameras, and 10 USB charging outlets, according to the mayor of the coastal Italian city.

‘’In addition to this intervention, additional fifteen 10.5-metre full electric e-buses are scheduled to arrive by the end of the year. Genoa will have a completely green fleet by 2025. These new vehicles bring us closer to the goal,’’ mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci further stated.

Electrification would result in buses emitting significantly less pollutants or greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which is an important step towards ensuring a more sustainable future. Moreover, electric buses can also decrease costs, boost road safety and help local businesses.
