Mayor of Bergen is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion
Rune Bakervik was elected to the city council for the first time in 2003 as a deputy member. He has served on the municipal council on a permanent basis since 2009.
In addition to making sure Bergen remains an open city, mayor Bakervik is also determined to tackle climate change in Bergen and help halt global warming with numerous green and environmental policies.
Mayor Bakervik stated as per the official website of Bergen Municipality: ‘’Our children are holding climate strikes, they fear for the future, we must listen to that. As elected representatives, we cannot sit still in the boat and leave the responsibility to the next generation, then it is too late. We must take the initiative and drive the changes that are necessary for our children.’’
Cities are one of the most significant contributors to climate change, but they also possess some of the best tools to combat it, which mayor Bakervik is well aware of. Furthermore, mayor of Bergen finds it very important that every resident enjoys equal opportunities, regardless of whether they always lived in the city or only recently decided to make it their home. Moreover, he pays special attention to the most vulnerable groups in Bergen and works hard to address their needs.
‘’In Bergen, it should not matter if you grew up in a block in Hjalmaren like me, or if you grew up in a detached house. It should have nothing to do with whether you stock up or buy lunch, whether you have lived here all your life or whether you came here a few weeks ago. Bergen must be for everyone,’’ mayor of Bergen Rune Bakervik stated on social media. (photo credit: Bergen official website)
