Málaga coordinates relief efforts with Turkish consulate
Málaga is coordinating its relief efforts with the Turkish consulate to help the country recover from the recent earthquake.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Málaga Francisco de la Torre pointed out that the city council has been in contact with the consulate since the earthquake struck.
The earthquake with magnitude of 7.8 hit Turkey and Syria earlier this month, killing more than 40,000 people and causing severe damage.
Besides the consulate, the city is coordinating relief efforts with the Rapid Response Volunteer Group, Firefighters Without Borders and private entities to make sure that aid reaches affected areas as soon as possible.
As part of the relief plan, Málaga will set up collection points across the city to facilitate the gathering of required materials.
The Turkish consulate noted that sleeping bags and winter clothing is needed, as are blankets, powdered baby milk, personal hygiene products and non-perishable food that is not in glass containers and does not contain pork.
Collection points were set up on 13 February and will remain open until 18 February, with city authorities pointing out that collection efforts will be coordinated by the Rapid Response Volunteer Group.
Besides collections points in public areas, Maskom supermarkets will have collection points in all stores to help Málaga gather and send aid to Turkey.
