Madrid has promoted its tourism offer at the Virtuoso Forum Asia in Singapore to tap the market and encourage tourism.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida announced plans to reactivate the air connection with Shanghai in June, noting that China Eastern Airlines will operate five weekly flights.

Promotion at the forum organised by travel agencies is part of Madrid’s tourism strategy and will help the city to attract visitors from Asian markets.

City authorities noted that this is Madrid’s first appearance at the forum, which presents an opportunity to promote its unique tourism offer that positions it as one of the top European destinations.

The forum helped Madrid to establish contact with travel agencies and tourism companies in Asia and to continue promoting the city as a tourist destination.

Madrid noted that Chinese tourism is expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2024, reminding that the Chinese market was the largest before the coronavirus crisis with some 155 million outbound tourists in 2019.

Main interests of Chinese tourists visiting Europe include shopping and gastronomy, which Madrid excels in.

City authorities pointed out that Madrid will continue to promote its tourism offer in Asia at the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) fair in Singapore later in June.
