Madrid continues to invest in tourism and develop its tourism strategy in cooperation with the private sector.

Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida pointed out that the city council has managed to make “tourism Madrid’s great window to the world.”

He added that the tourism strategy and city authorities’ efforts to improve quality of life in Madrid are helping the tourism sector to recover.

Almeida reminded that city authorities launched the international promotion campaign for Madrid as a tourist destination in cooperation with private companies, noting that the first campaigns in Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, the US, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia have been approved.

Compared to tourism results from 2019, Madrid has recovered nearly nine out of ten international tourists and is almost back to pre-crisis levels.

According to Almeida, Madrid has positioned itself as one of the main urban destinations for tourists thanks to the efforts of the city council.

He reminded that hotel investments in 2022 exceeded EUR 800 million, which improved Madrid’s offer.

According to the strategy for development of tourism, average daily spending of tourists in Madrid will exceed EUR 300 this year, which is more than it was in 2019.

Almeida noted that successful tourism policies helped to transform the sector and concluded that “Madrid is unstoppable.”
