Linköping is building a new sports high school to help students who want to combine their high school education with training.

Headed by Mayor of Linköping Lars Vikinge, city authorities pointed out that the new high school will open in the autumn of 2023.

Principal Espen Surén stressed that Linköping wants “to create an environment that is familiar,” pointing out that the school will provide a sports-oriented study environment.

He pointed out that young people can pursue education and train at the same time if they are disciplined and manage their time well.

Surén noted that the new school will be close to sports facilities including a pool, a dance studio, a football field and a hockey rink, while a golf course is further away.

Surén has been coaching children and young people for years and previously worked as the principal of a sports high school in Norrköping.

He pointed out that the school wants to have room for as many sports as possible, but stressed that progress will be gradual as expansion projects will be implemented in stages.

Surén concluded that the new school will offer an environment where young people will be able to support and challenge each other regardless of sport and age.

The school will boast several programmes including economics, natural sciences and social sciences, among other.

Councillor Åsa Ridne welcomed the plan to build a new sports high school, stressing that the city needs to expand its capacities in this area.
