Genoa presents tourism results showing significant recovery
Genoa pointed out that tourism recovered last year, stressing that the city’s efforts to help the sector get back on its feet are yielding results.
Headed by Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, city authorities pointed out that more than 2 million tourist arrivals were recorded in the first 11 months of 2022, up roughly 50% compared to 2021.
Councillor for tourism Alessandra Bianchi noted that the number of tourists from the US increased approximately 270% annually last year, while the number of arrivals from the UK increased roughly 320%.
She stressed that figures are encouraging and added that efforts of city authorities in recent years “brought excellent results.”
Bianchi pointed out that 2022 tourism figures surpassed those from the pre-coronavirus crisis period and noted that last year’s mild weather helped to attract more tourists and keep them longer.
She added that city authorities found “the key to promoting ourselves better, speaking not only of tourism, but also of traditions, sports, art, culture and major events… a tourism that embraces every area.”
Genoa authorities noted that, while tourism figures in the off-season were up last year, the majority of arrivals and overnight stays were recorded in June, July and August.
Tourists from Germany were the most numerous in Genoa last year (nearly 300,000), followed by France with approximately 260,000 and Switzerland with about 215,000.
