Dresden launches Smart City app to boost sustainability and civic engagement
Dresden has implemented the first Smart City project aimed at examining innovative and experimental urban development and citizen participation formats.
City authorities headed by Lord Mayor of Dresden Dirk Hilbert noted that the city is cooperating with the Dresden University of Technology on the Smart City programme, which was launched on 1 January 2022.
Dresden’s first Smart City project is the cleema app aimed at encouraging residents to act sustainably and participate in local projects.
The app offers users the opportunity to compete in challenges alone or with friends, as well as news, tips and quizzes on a wide range of topics including environmentalism, energy, mobility and more.
City authorities pointed out that the cleema team is continually testing and developing the app which fits well into Dresden’s Smart City model, largely due to promotion of resident participation.
The app will help Dresden to reach environmental and sustainability targets as well as implement its urban development plans by encouraging participation.
The Smart City programme is divided into two phases, with the first one to run until the end of June this year and include consultation and preparation.
The second phase is to run from July to the end of the year and include implementation of projects prepared in the first phase.
