Mayor of Bucharest Nicușor Dan invited private companies to register for the Bucharest Christmas Fair, opening the fair to the private sector for the first time. The fair will be launched on 30 November at the Constitution Square and will close on 26 December.

“I invite all companies that want to get involved in organizing this event – which has become a tradition in the capital – to contribute to making Bucharest a favourite destination for tourists, children, and all those who enjoy the winter holidays,” Dan noted in a post on Facebook.

He called on private companies who want to take part to apply until 24 October, pointing out that rules and application forms are available online. Bucharest authorities noted that a committee will examine proposals after the application phase is wrapped up. The committee will comprise one representative of the city and the municipality each, and three external experts.

The fair was cancelled in 2020 due to coronavirus concerns, when Dan warned that Bucharest was, epidemiologically speaking, “on the verge of collapse.” It was relaunched in 2021, but was held under restrictions as part of the pandemic response. Access was free of charge for children up to 12 years of age and attendants were required to show vaccine passes.

Vendors offer various winter-themed goods at the fair, including ornaments and decorations, bells, wreaths and handicrafts, as well as snacks, drinks, cakes, gingerbread and pies, among other.
